"We're doing our share!"

Greetings from the Van Rensselaer Division of the New York District of Kiwanis International. My name is Jim Rogers and I will be the Division's Lieutenant Governor for the 2008-2009 year. I became a Kiwanian almost 10 years ago when I joined The Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake. One of the many reasons for joining Kiwanis was to serve my community. I guess one could say my community service began when 12 years old as a Boy Scout, continued through my secondary science (biology and chemistry) teaching, and to retirement in 1994. Since joining The Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake in November1997, I have served in many offices including President and for five years on the Board of Directors.

This website provides a direct link to the six Kiwanis Clubs and the three Circle-K International (CKI) Clubs in the Division. Accessing each of the club's websites will enable you to learn information about each club including; their community service and fundraising projects and sponsored youth groups.

During the 90th anniversary year of Kiwanis, in 2005, delegates to the International Convention voted to adopt a new motto, "Serving the Children of the World." In 1992 Capital, Mohawk, and Van Rensselaer Divisions in the Capital area collectively had established a common goal to raise $400,000.00 for the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Unit at Albany Medical Center. This goal was realized two years ago and a decision made to continue raising money for this very worthwhile program.

"Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time." A few years ago an individual joined the local Kiwanis Club. When asked the reason, the new member stated, "I joined to help others, but most of all I joined to help myself, when I help others it makes me feel good inside." Are you one of these individuals who would like to help yourself through service to others? Please take time to browse through our award winning website and visit the the web sites of clubs making up the Van Rensselaer Division.
