About the Castleton Kiwanis Club

Since 1939 the Castleton Kiwanis Club has served the Castleton/Schodack community, which is located in southern Rensselaer County in the beautiful Hudson Valley of upstate New York. The club is composed of about 50 men and women who take part in a variety of service projects for the community and fund raising activities to support these projects.

The Castleton Kiwanis Club sponsors a Key Club for high school students, a Builders Club for middle school students, and a K-Kids Club for elementary school students at the Schodack Central School District. Kiwanis also sponsors Cub Scout Pack 253 and Troop 53 of the Boy Scouts of America, which have been important parts of the Castleton-Schodack community for many years.

The Castleton Kiwanis Clove Run, which consists of a 15 K race, a 5 K race and a 1 mile KIDS FUN Run, is usually held in the middle of August. All proceeds from the Clove Run are donated to The Anchor, the local food pantry. For more information, see the Clove Run Web Site.

Meetings

The club holds weekly meetings each Wednesday at Scarnato's Ristorante in Castleton. The meetings begin at 6:30 P.M., and are similar to Kiwanis meetings the world over — an inspirational opening, a meal, reports on current projects, and usually a program. The programs offer members a chance to hear about a variety of topics, from those in education, the justice system, the arts and entertainment, to those in public and professional businesses.

Joining Kiwanis

We are always looking for new members -- men and women who would like to help make our community a better place in which to live. If you might be interested in joining the Castleton Kiwanis and would like to attend a meeting as our guest and learn more about the Castleton Kiwanis, see Joining Kiwanis.

Kiwanis Photos

Following is a slideshow of photos that were taken during "Kiwanis One Day" activities when Kiwanis members worked on community service projects with other members of the Kiwanis Family. Some of the photos were taken when members of the Castleton Kiwanis Club installed Blue Bird Houses at the Schodack Town Park with the help of members of the Key Club, Builders Club and the K-Kids Club. Also shown is a photo of the members of the VanRensselaer Division Clubs and Circle K Clubs who did a community service project at the Regional Food Bank. The final photo shows the Kiwanis members who attended a Bowling Party for the Van Rensselaer Division.
