Community Service Projects
Part of being a Kiwanian is giving of ones self to help others.
The Castleton Kiwanis Club prides itself on the active volunteerism of it's
membership. Our club's emphasis strongly reflects the Kiwanis International
emphasis on Youth. Below are some of the community service projects supported
by our club.
Youth Community Service Projects
- Christmas Party for about 120 young children in the
community
- Sponsorship of Castleton Cub Scout Pack No. 253
- Sponsorship of Key Club, Builders Club, and K-Kids Club in the
Schodack Central School District for high school, middle school, and elementary
school pupils
- Partial sponsorship of the Maple Hill Middle School work/study
program
- Sponsorship of Glover Memorial Cross Country Race during
Schodack Central School District Sports Weekend
- Donation of funds to the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Unit at the
Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center
- Donation of funds to the Castleton Boy Scouts and the Girl
Scouts
- Donation of "Kiwanis Bears" to the Castleton Ambulance and the
Schodack Police for use with young children
- Recognition of outstanding high school seniors
- Annual awards to high school pupils with highest averages in
social studies, mathematics, and computer sciences
- Annual awards to outstanding members of the Key Club and
Builders Club
- Annual awards to 8th grade boy and girl with highest academic
achievement and community involvement
- Maple Hill Preschool Scholarship
- Summer campships for Camp Scully
- Sponsorship of a high school student to the Senior Leadership
Conference in Washington, D.C.
Other Community Service Projects
- New Year's Eve Party for Senior Citizens from the Resurrection
Rest Home and the community
- Sponsorship of a float for the Memorial Day Parade
- Recognition of services provided by clergy in community
- Recognition of local farmers during the Annual Farmer's
Recognition Dinner
- Donation of funds to Kiwanis International to eradicate Iodine
Deficiency Disorders (IDD) around the world by the year 2000. For more
