If you've already looked at the page listing the contributions that the Castleton-Schodack Kiwanis Club makes to the community, you've probably concluded that this level of service takes money. Unlike some other service organizations that rely mainly on contributions from its members and the public, we "do it the old-fashioned way" -- we work for it. We raise funds for our community projects in the following ways:

  • The main fund raiser for the Castleton-Schodack Kiwanis is selling chicken barbecue dinners three times during the year — in late October, late January, and mid March. The dinners are prepared at the Castleton Volunteer Fire Department in Castleton, and may be either picked up by customers, or delivered to customers. If you would like to help Kiwanis raise monies for community service projects by purchasing chicken barbecue dinners, send an e-mail to the WebMaster.

  • Kiwanis sponsors a pancake breakfast on Memorial Day at the Castleton Volunteer Ambulance Building.

  • Kiwanis sells hots dogs and hamburgers during concerts at the Schodack Town Park during the summer, and at Community Days at the Schodack Island State Park in the fall and winter.

All monies raised from the community are used to sponsor community service projects. None of the money is used to fund the administrative costs of the Castleton-Schodack Kiwanis. All administrative costs for the club are paid by member dues and "fines" levied on members at weekly meetings. The "fines" are nominal amounts for events such as birthdays, anniversaries, the purchase of a new car, a child graduating from college, etc.

Our club members contribute many hours to these fund-raising efforts. We have a lot of fun as well as generating considerable sweat. We're always looking for new members to help -- as are all Kiwanis clubs.
