ANNOUNCEMENTS:

PROGRAM: Club Bulletin and Kiwanis Educational tidbit

PROGRAM #1 Jo Moccia In abstentia :

The Sandpiper is a club tradition with a long history of fabulous work. This year the Sandpiper will cover the events of Kiwanis and is being handled by Jo Moccia, Jim Colabelli and Pat Lane. It is a joint effort and President Jerry helps out by providing the agenda in advance. The newsletter is placed into the format before the meeting and then notes and happy dollars are added to the document. It is then emailed to Booker for posting. Hard copies are printed and sent by Jim Colabelli each week to 11 members. The Kiwanis tradition of being unable to say no to a request has resulted in the current Sandpiper committee thanks to President Jerry!

PROGRAM #2 Kiwanis Educational Tidbits from Bob Pasquarelli (presented as an oral quiz):

Perfect attendance is attained by being present at each meeting. If it is not possible to be present at each meeting there are various ways to acquire make-up attendance credits (KI Administrative Bulletin #3.) They are as follows: board meetings; interclubs; projects; when out of town the attending of a Kiwanis meeting in another city, ( Kiwanis.org to find out where meetings are held ) and the attending of conventions or mid-winter conferences. If you know you will be absent for more than 1 month, it is wise to ask for a leave of absence. Money and or bills coming into the club ALWAYS go to the secretary 1st. It is most important to keep the club money straight to help club administration.

HAPPY DOLLARS

$Skip Patton: The power shoppers class of ‘08 were interviewed by various medias including Channel 9.  We had a good time and got Santa’s job done.

$Joe Cybulski:  Thank you to the individuals that gave rides home to the New Year’s Eve revelers.  Those individuals were Bob Rider and Dave Booker.

$Joe Behson:  Happy for a 2 week period of time skiing and spending the holidays with family.

$Dave Booker:  Proud to have received a citation from the County Legislature for his dedication to Kiwanis and the community and happy to spend New Years Eve with two other SLKC members helping people get home safely.

$Jim Rogers:  Happy for Dave’s citation.  The Rats played two teams better than them, Scranton and Bridgeport.  The Rats won both games!

$John Brownrigg:  An unhappy dollar for pending surgery on his now septic elbow. Happy for something that has come to fruition after his prudent actions in Vietnam 37 years ago.  He had been given orders by his commanders to destroy a Buddhist Temple.  Had second thoughts about this and was able to rescue various statues of great value.  After safely storing them in his basement for the last aforementioned period of time he was finally able to return them to Vietnam to their proper sacred place.

$Eve:  Happy for daughter selling her home and grandson Drew was able to muster a 3.4  grade average at College.

$Dick Johnson (shown right):  On New Years Eve  we were able to sing with the Helderberg Madricals.  Youngest daughter hosted a get-together on Irving Street in Albany. Happy that an Ecumenical Breakfast will be held at the COC Sat. Jan 24, at 9am. It is titled Octave for Christian Unity.  Contact Rev. M. Watters at COC if you are interested in attending.

$Gary Meislin:  Got a call from Son.  He said he was told he would be in DC for at least 3 more years.  He has decided to purchase a home there.

$Peg Weiss:   Happy for safe trip to and from North Carolina visiting family over the holidays.  Son has a new job.

$Pres. Jerry: Happy for safe trip visiting son is W. Virginia.  Drop through the Cumberland Pass in a white out!  Happy to present CD of Summerfest ’08 to Mikki.
