MEETING OF Jan, 19, 2009
PRESIDENT Gerald Tysiak presiding
GREETINGS & INVOCATION by Skip Patton

Abbreviated meeting as we were hosting the Van Rensselaer Divisional Meeting ..

WELCOME GUEST: Prospective member John Mulligan for his second visit.

And the many members of the Van Rensselaer Division Clubs and Key Club LG Liz Derderian and Circle K LG Nichole Kennedy.

SPIRITUAL AIMS EDUCATION: MARTIN LUTHER KING HOLIDAY
An interesting commentary by Spiritual Aims Chair Dick Johnsen, who was in the seminary at the same time that Dr. King was studying for his doctorate.  Dick recounted the time that he attended the March for Jobs march in Washington at which MLK delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech which included a plea for all to find peaceful solutions to our problems.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

§        Ray Turner, Interclub Chair, announced that the interclub with the Rensselaer Kiwanis had been rescheduled for Thursday February 5.  On the list to attend this interclub are: EVE WARD, JIM ROGERS, DAVE BOOKER, RAY TURNER & PAT LANE.

§        For the absent Community Services Chair President Jerry noted that the next Doors of Hope food delivery would be held tomorrow (Tuesday February 20) and Bob Pasquarelli, Jim Parslow, Joe Behson, Dave Booker & President Jerry all signed up to work this event.

§        John Brownrigg reminded all of the Veterans’ Information Night that Rensselaer County is holding from 6 to 8 on Wednesday the 28th at the Walter Adams American Legion Post.  All veterans of the county are urged to attend.

§        Bob Loveridge, at the urging of President Jerry, told the club that they both had been invited to and attended the Officer Installation Banquet held by the West Sand Lake Fire Department at which they received a Certificate of Appreciation for the efforts of the SLKC during the recent ice storm. According to Bob it was a very fine Fiesta!

HAPPY DOLLARS:

$       Kevin Sarsfield – a happy dollar not only to remind us of the fine program that son Ryan put on for the club but also as a means of informing the club that Ryan had left for Washington, DC to attend the inauguration.

$       Dale Hall gave a happy dollar because he is very happy that his latest procedure seems to be working and as a true “bionic man” he is now back.

$       LG Liz Derderian – gave one for Noreen (“… because she will not stand up.”) and one for the help that the sponsoring clubs have given the Key Clubs that have paid their dues!

$       Rensselaer Secretary Claire gave one “… just for being invited to share in this meeting.”

$       LG Nichole Kennedy wanted to express her pleasure that school is back in session and she is again at a VR Division Council meeting.

$       LG Jim was very pleased that all the division’s clubs had an interclub to tonight’s meeting.

$       PLG Fred Harrigan, from Rensselaer, gave one “… because each time someone gives a dollar to Peg she smiles!”

$       Peg for a safe trip to VT to spend “Christmas” with her brother and family even if it was three weeks late.

DRAWINGS:

Door Prize supplied by Jim Rogers was won by Barb.

50/50 worth $40.00 was won by PLG Pat Vallee from the Rensselaer Club.

Progressive 50/50 now worth $73.50 will only increase in value as Dudley drew the 3 of spades.

DIVISION COUNCIL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

LG Jim presiding:

There are three Key Clubs sponsored by clubs in the division that have not paid their dues (APHS and Columbia HS are among those clubs).

The council unanimously endorsed Dave Booker as a candidate for election to Governor at the August Convention.

The division will have a basket to donate to the Annual Basket Auction at the Mid Year Conference and the effort will be spearheaded by IPLG Gale (Hoosick Falls Club).

The annual election of division officers will be held at the next division council meeting to be hosted by the Castleton Kiwanis on March 11.  Anyone wishing to run for either Division Secretary or Lt. Governor Elect should make themselves known to LG Jim.  (Any member in good standing in one of the clubs of the Van Rensselaer Division may serve as secretary and any Past President in good standing may serve as Lt.
