ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ø  Jillian made a request for financial support on behalf of the Key Club members who would like to attend the Key Club Leadership Conference at the Holiday Inn Turf April 8-11.  It will cost $250 for each student.

Ø  Bob Loveridge presented the completed calendars published by the Sheriff’s Dept in collaboration with the Kiwanis Clubs of Rensselaer County.  They show great pictures of the officers and K-9 dogs, and present much information about Kiwanis in general, and the various clubs in our county.  At $8 apiece, the calendars are a fund raiser for the K-9 Group and a membership recruitment tool for Kiwanis.  Each club is asked to buy 20, and several of our members bought calendars.

Ø  Past NY District Governor Booker announced that the Mid-Year Conference would be held at the Holiday Inn Turf from Thurs Feb 24 through Sun Feb 27.  All are encouraged to attend, but especially present and upcoming officers.  Since the Conference is in our area this year, we need not incur a hotel expense, but registration is necessary ($50) to attend seminars and forums.  Dave will make the registration forms available next week, or they can be downloaded from “Kiwanis-NY.org”.  Each Division is asked to prepare a gift basket to be raffled, usually using articles representing the clubs’ area.  LTG Wendy will manage it.

PROGRAM    Pres Skip presented a most interesting slide show of his recent visit to the Vatican (part of a larger trip to Tuscany).  He showed excellent views of the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo’s breath-taking paintings, St. Peter’s Cathedral and Square, the Pope’s residence, the Coliseum, the Pantheon, and many other areas of the Eternal City of Rome.  Thanks, Skip, it was great!

HAPPY DOLLARS

$     Eve:  I am much relieved, and very happy, that my grandson Drew made the decision to do his term abroad in Manchester, England, and not in Cairo, Egypt, as he originally intended!

$     Jillian:  I’m going to the Key Club gathering, and I get to hang out with past lieutenant governors at RPI!

$     Peg:  I’m very happy that Eve owns a juicer, because today she generously helped me turn two cartons of oranges into 8 quarts of wonderful orange juice!

$     Pres Skip:  I just returned from a several day visit with my son Scott in Portland, Oregon, where we rented a car and toured the Columbia River Valley, saw lots of old fossils, and checked out the many brew pubs in the area!

The impending snow storm must have scared away many of our members, because we were four short of our minimum of 21 meals.  The 4 take home dinners were sold for $10 each to Dave Booker, Fred Wurtemberger, Skip Patton, and Gary Meislin—thanks, guys!

DOOR PRIZE, provided by Pres Skip, was won by Bill Whipple!

50/50 for $16 was won by Pres Skip!

MEGA 50/50, tonight worth $585, will continue to grow.  Jerry Tysiak did his best, but all he could come up with from the 17 remaining cards was the 2 of Hearts!  It’s getting interesting!!
