ANNOUNCEMENTS
INDUCTION OF NEW
MEMBER
James Perez was introduced to the club as our
newest member, sponsored
by Ron Wagner. Bob Pasquarelli informed James that he was joining an
international organization dedicated to the welfare of children, located in
100 countries with over 300,000 members world-wide, but most importantly, he
was joining the Sand Lake Club, the best club in the capital district! Ron
pinned on James’ membership pin which he was encouraged to wear as much as
possible, but definitely to each meeting. Ron was given his bronze key lapel
pin for sponsoring his first new member. Joe welcomed James into SLK,
presenting him with our roster of members, and his own Doo-Hickey, plus a
membership application form so that he may bring in another member!
James thanked everyone, saying he was glad to be a part of this group, (even after coming to several meetings)! He has known Ron, and lived in the Capital District for over 20 years. He’s a union carpenter, and worked on building Macy’s. Jim has lived in our town for 12 years at Sliter’s Corners, near Ron on Route 150. Welcome to Sand Lake Kiwanis, Jim!
PROGRAM
Joe Behson introduced Debra Roy, managing director of the Sand Lake Center for
the Arts, who has returned to give us some updates on what’s new at the
Center. She emphasized Sundays at the Center which are family and children’s
events, the last of which featured Phil Singer, who drew caricatures. Deb
showed a few, one of which bore a striking resemblance to our esteemed
President Gary! On Valentine’s Day, Sun Feb 14th, SLCA will present A
Valentine to Remember, with Greg Nazarian’s Big Dance Band, with our own Joe
Trupia playing. At $25 per person, it is a fundraiser for the Center, and we
would like to fill all our tables and the dance floor! Debra was definitely
accepting checks tonight! On Sat Feb 27 at 7PM, a
film, “The Singing Revolution”, written and directed by an Averill Park
resident will be shown—definitely worth seeing! Sat Mar 13 will be a Squire
Jacob night featuring the music of Garfield Moore. The next Circle Theatre
Players production will be “Arms And The Man”, a comedy set in 1895, on March
19, 20, 21 & 26, 27, 28.
The 4 week summer program for kids will have Averill Park alumni teaching kids about film making, and a session called “Building Blocks of Music” for young kids. SLCA is happy to again receive SLK funds for scholarships this year.
Bob Loveridge thanked Debra for her informative
presentation and gave her another Certificate of Appreciation to add to her
collection!
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Nancy gave a dollar in honor of SLK’s 60th anniversary, and for the article now officially described as a doo-hickey and not a thing-a-ma-jig!
$ Joe B gave a dollar for Debra’s presentation, and since this is about her 4th visit, gave her a membership packet………..?
$ Bob Pasquarelli is always happy when the Saints are leading the world!
$ Brownrigg paid a buck for all the help of Booker and Evil Sat night preparing for our 60th! Since Dunkin Donuts has a coffee mug saying happy 60th birthday (mine), I think we should have one for SLK’s 60th!
$ LTG Noreen: I thank you so much for the doo-hickey. I never knew WHAT it was……I really thought it was something for the guys…..a male thing! {Her blush matched her red sweater!}
$ Debra Roy: Thanks for inviting me back….it’s always such fun here! Congratulations on your 60th anniversary!
$ Bill Whipple: Marine son Scott arrived safely in very humid Liberia Jan 30 where he will be training their troops for a big parade on Feb 11.
$ Pat Lane: 2 weeks from today the Red Sox start spring training!
DOOR PRIZE, provided by Joe B, was won by John Mulligan!
50/50 for $22.50 was won by our new member, Jim
Perez!
MEGA 50/50 grew to $122.50 but eluded Bill Whipple who picked the 4 of Diamonds from the 46 cards left in the deck!

Kiwanis Info Corner
Did you know that we are four months into our Kiwanis year and already have four new members! Your Membership Committee wants to keep the pedal to the metal and remind members of their pledge to TRY to bring in at least one new member this year. Have you tried? Have you really tried hard? Well, Bill Whipple, Ron Wagner, Bryce Cutler (via Dave Booker) and Jerry Tysiak not only tried but succeeded! Please rekindle your efforts to recruit a member and thereby secure the future vibrancy of the club. Maintaining our average of one new member a month would be awesome!
