INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBER

            Membership Chair Joe Behson introduced Randall Wheeler II as our newest member, and presented him with various accoutrements of membership (new directory, brochures, Kiwanis project information, and our own “Doo-Hickey)!  Bob Pasquarelli informed Randy that he was now a member of a global organization in 90 countries with over 300,000 members, with adults in Kiwanis Clubs, (the best of course being Sand Lake!), college students in Circle K, high school students in Key Clubs, and younger kids in Builders Clubs.  At Bob’s request, Randy told the club that he came here 9 years ago from the Rochester area because of a job change, and has lived in Poestenkill for the last 5 years with his wife Karen, and two sons, Randy III and Sean.  He enjoys the friendliness of the small towns here, feels that they have found their home base, and has been working with the Cub Scouts.  Jerry Tysiak, as Randy’s sponsor, attached his new Kiwanis membership pin, and gave him his name badge.  Randy is the 4th new member this year, and the other 3 were called up front for a picture:  Bill Gates, Bryce Ginther, and James Perez.  Welcome to Sand Lake Kiwanis, Randy!

HAPPY DOLLARS

$     John Brownrigg paid to educate us to the fact that the expression “okay” came from one of our earlier, and local, presidents, Martin Van Buren, who lived at Old Kinderhook!

$     Skip Patton, very happy to report that his older son Scott, who had been living in Chile for the past year, was alive and well after the earthquake, and was in Uruguay!

$     Joe Behson, had a great week skiing at Mt Snow, and will be going back SOON to the 54 inches of snow they received last week!

$     Peg reported that she, Pat, and Eve had a wonderful time Sat night as judges at the Iron Chef competition sponsored by RPI’s Circle K.  The food was great, and the kids were very pleased that we came!

$     Jerry Tysiak had two reasons to be happy:  his friend Randy is now an SLK member, and his daughter Olenna received her CFA, certification as a financial analyst, after several years of study and work in this field of endeavor!

$     Bruce Perry has finished the year as basketball coach of 16th place Cobleskill!

$     Gov Dave also had two:  heard from Jim Rogers that they expect to return north March 22, and that he attended the 50th anniversary party at the Sayville, LI club, a nice party but not as nice as our 60th!

$     Pres Gary:  Had no power for 28 hours during last week’s snow storm, and was snowed in until a friendly neighbor plowed me out!  But my daughter’s coming tomorrow to stuff my cat into the carrier so we can take her to the vet because she has something stuck on her back!  {“Another cat?!” commented an unknown SLK}

DOOR PRIZE, 2 boxes of Girl Scout cookies and discounted Capital Repertory tickets, was won by lucky Joe Behson!

50/50 for $25 was won by Ray Turner!

MEGA 50/50:  Beginner’s luck didn’t help James Perez find the King of Clubs, which tonight was worth $167.50.  He was as close as possible, though, picking the ACE of Clubs from 42 cards!
