PROGRAM #1: Barbara
Fioravanti reporting on the Sponsored Youth (which International now calls the
Service Leadership Programs)
Committee.
The purpose of the committee is to support K-family clubs which are Circle K,
Key Club, Builder’s Club, K-kids, Aktion Clubs and Key Leader. SLK has 2"1/2"
sponsored clubs - Averill Park High School and Columbia High School Key Clubs
and we unofficially share Russell Sage Circle K with the other clubs of the
Van Rensselaer Division (Hoosick Falls is the "official" sponsor). Right now,
due to resignations, non participation, and members moving to new positions,
Barbara is the only member of the Sponsored Youth Committee. Dale Hall is a
member of the 4-member Interclub Committee . As a member of the New York
District's Key Club Committee he is the Kiwanis representative to 3 Key Club
Divisions and helps with SLK Sponsored Youth when he can. Each Key Club needs
a Kiwanis representative to attend all or at least most of the meetings and
club activities as well as Divisional meetings held every 1-2 months. The
representative needs to work closely between meetings with the faculty advisor
and club officers. Barbara spends 2 hours a week attending meetings, plus more
time emailing and phoning. This is the most she can do. She also has a regular
job! Barbara needs assistance with the Sponsored Youth Committee. There is a
great deal of satisfaction in the Key Club work. As Barbara says “ if you can
call it work”. You get to know the individual Key Clubbers which is guaranteed
to put a smile on your face and lift your spirits. The kids are a lot of fun.
All three faculty advisors are wonderful to work with and well liked by the
key clubbers. Barbara hopes that there will be one or two among the Kiwanians
who will step up and help with this Committee.

PROGRAM # 2: Bob Pasquarelli reporting on Membership & Education Committee. Leadership is something that a person is born with and not made. A good leader is also a good mentor who can walk you through a project. For example, if you have been asked to give a presentation in front of a large group of people a mentor will help you create a program so that your presentation will inform, entertain and convince the group of people to whom you are speaking. The best investment we can make is in our children. What they see today is what they will do tomorrow. Kids will do what you suggest to them. Key Club is very important in schools. Volunteerism is also very important. The things that will kill a club are apathy, no one volunteering, taking the fun out of fun(d)raising, emphasizing on negatives. The things that will help a club are enthusiasm & volunteering. Managers do things right but good leaders do the right things.
