Announcements:

• June Anniversary:  Happy 222^nd to the US Constitution, ratified 6/21/1788.
• At the 6/12 Charter night for the new East Greenbush Club SLK received a banner patch for the Sponsor Award.  4 SLK’s also received New Club Builder awards: Jim Rogers, Eve Ward, Joe Behson and Jerry Tysiak.
• Guv Dave outlined proposed changes to be voted on at the International Convention this weekend.  There were 14 items, each voted on separately by the Club, directing the delegates to vote the Club’s will.  The club was in favor of items 1-8 and 14, and opposed to items 9-13.  The resolutions and amendments can be found as a PDF file at a link at about the middle of the page at:  http://slp.kiwanis.org/VegasICON2010/business.aspx . 
• Pat Lane: Circle K Divisional this week
• Nancy W Davis and Pat Lane both achieved 2 years of perfect attendance, and Jim Colabelli 16 years.
• Nancy W presented Secretary Pat with a letter from the Sand Lake Historical Society thanking SLK for operating our food trailer at the Things that Move Parade.  Enclosed was $84 toward food and $16 donation for a total of $100.
• Dues are due July 1.
• Reminder that there is a Van Rensselaer Division tailgate party on Saturday, July 24 at 3:00 PM at the New Lebanon Theater Barn.  The performance of Agatha Christie’s Spider’s Web is at 5:00 PM.  Call Jean Andrick at 686-4188 for tickets and information.  All who went last year had a great time and were impressed with the quality of the theater production.

Program: Bob Carpenter for the Legacy committee pointed out that of the 24 members present, 8 were Legacy members.  Clairvoyantly anticipating the time it took to address the International Convention items, Bob remarked that instead of the scheduled Legacy member recognitition/roast, we were encouraged to participate in the RAAD Moonlight Walk at 8:30 later in the evening at 43 Mall.  Again displaying a keen ability to adapt to the unanticipated, Bob explained that the main legacy of the Legacy group was Winter Carnival, and that SummerFest was becoming the new Legacy Event.  With that he introduced future Legacy member and Prez-Elect Skip Patton to update us on SummerFest, less than two weeks away.  With some adroit stage business involving the Club’s banner, Skip reported that plans are coming together well.  There will be bands on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; and fireworks both Saturday and Sunday.  We are trying something new this year that should relieve the usual shortage of SLK volunteers: instead of having the SLK food tent, Uncle Marty’s will provide food and beverages including beer, and pay us a portion of the proceeds.  Checks have been coming in from sponsors, and the cost of fireworks and music have been covered.  There will be the traditional parade Saturday morning with opening ceremony to follow at the flag pole, and  a softball tournament Saturday afternoon. The tennis tournament will be all day Saturday, and the variety show Saturday afternoon. Skip requests that everyone keep track of hours spent, including contacting sponsors, and be ready to report after SummerFest.  Bob Loveridge has posters, and asks that each SLK take a few to distribute wherever they will be noticed.  Dates on the posters include July 1-4 because the rides will operate Thursday-Sunday.  There will be discount coupons for ride deals distributed to youth groups and in Stewart’s and other locations.

Happy Dollars:

• Nancy W: 1. Saw Bill Whipple and reports he is doing well and able to drive, and 2. reports that we should not be concerned about any misspellings on our sign because Botsy will take care of spell-checking.
• Barb: Got her wings back, able to fly as Pilot in Command now.
• Bob P. is happy for his grandson’s full 4 (maybe 5) year scholarship from the Army Corps of Engineers.
• Skip is happy 1. for Son Scott and his girlfriend who have found jobs in Portland, OR. And 2. for a great Red Sox game.  They won, but he got home at 3 AM.
•  Woodie spent his 77^th birthday at Cape Cod, and will celebrate his 56^th wedding anniversary with Marian this weekend.
• Guv Dave visited two clubs last week: Long Island Central and Suffolk West, including a cruise to Fire Island.
• Sec’y Pat is happy that she was able to raise $955 for the Walk for Hospice.

Drawings:

• 50/50 worth $19 won by Guv Dave.
• Progressive 50/50, $16 added this week for a total of $170 almost went to Bryce Ginther, who drew the King…. of Diamonds.
