ANNOUNCEMENTS

Bob Arsenault:  We are holding a Bobbie Arsenault (our son) Memorial Fundraiser to benefit Make-A-Wish on Sat August 18th at Butler Park from 1 to 7 PM, and would like some assistance from Kiwanis.  There will be a car show, live bands, and a Giffy’s chicken barbecue.  We could use man (woman) power, tents, advice, distribution of posters, whatever.  Some discussion was held, and the decision was to have the Arsenaults return on the first Monday in August (the 6th) with all the needs detailed, and we would sign up then.  We were reminded that several of our members would be out of town attending the District Convention at Niagara Falls on the 18th.

Eve Ward:  There are still a few Valley Cats baseball tickets left—sign up soon.  I will have the 40 tickets at next week’s meeting, and you can buy them then @ $9.50 each.  The game is Monday July 23rd at The Joe.

Pres Pat:  We received a nice thank you note from Meg Distell for remembering her with a get well card.  She’s starting another round of chemo.

John Brownrigg:  Next year’s International Convention will be held from June 27th – 30th, 2013 in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and some of us are thinking of taking the Trans-Canada rail trip across the Rockies from Toronto.  If you are interested, get back to me ASAP.  Your return transportation will be on your own.

John Brownrigg (again):  As you travel this summer, please be on the lookout for vendors who might wish to come to the 2013 Summerfest.  Collect their cards and bring them to me!

JULY BIRTHDAYS:  Clayton Besch, Bob Carpenter, TC McEntyre, Lou Morizio, & Joe Trupia, none of whom were present, so we didn’t even attempt to sing!

JULY ANNIVERSARIES:  John & Suzanne Brownrigg, Bob & Joan Carpenter, Jude & Linda Clemente, & Kris & Sondra Willis.  Since Brownrigg was the only one present, he received    the benefit (?) of our lilting voices!  But we did enjoy Eve’s beautiful birthday cake to America!  What a shame to cut it!

HAPPY DOLLARS

$     Dave Booker:  Had a great time in New Orleans, despite someone getting into my pants!  A pickpocket picked me, and I lost my wallet with all the cards, (credit and ID), money, and all the stuff we keep in our wallets.  It was quite a complicated procedure to convince the TSAs at the airport that I indeed was David Booker from Averill Park, NY!  From now on I will carry my wallet in a front pocket!

$     Joe Behson:  I’m happy that MY time in New Orleans was uneventful, and I came back to find that the Yankees were even more securely in first place!

$     Jim Rogers:  When we were in Hammondsport recently we ate a very nice restaurant that had paper placemats bearing “Faces of Kiwanis”—photos of local Kiwanis members and other pertinent information about their club.  Something to consider?  Also, our 10 year old grandson performed wonderfully in track and field events, breaking his own personal records in the long jump and the 200 meter!

$     Pete Stevens:  We were awakened at 1 AM by pounding on our front door—our son had flown home unexpectedly from St Petersburg to surprise us!

$     Kevin Sarsfield:  I’m so happy for the kindnesses of Kiwanians.  First Jean calls me “heavy set”, and then I get emails from Loveridge to join a weight loss program!  {“I got hacked!”}

$     Jim Colabelli:  After many delays, our church parking lot is being repaved!  Also, we spent the weekend in Watch Hill, RI, scouting vacation spots—a really nice place!

$     John Brownrigg:  I am celebrating 39 years of Blonde Moments!  I am very happy for the conclusion of Summerfest 2012!  Thanks to all your efforts we made 23% more than 2011!

$     Eve Ward:  Thanks to everyone who helped set up and clean up for our picnic last week!

$     Bob Pasquarelli:  Joan and I were both busy last Wed afternoon, when we realized that we BOTH had forgotten it was our anniversary (June 27)!  So we went down to La Perla and had a great dinner!

$     John Mulligan:  I took my granddaughter down to Cancun for a week—and I survived!

$     Jerry Tysiak:  I used to work in New York City, and learned quickly to put rubber bands around my wallet to make it difficult to remove it from the pocket!  I was away during Summerfest, on the Outer Banks of NC with my son and family.  The next weekend I attended a Bat Mitzvah for the first time, and was so impressed with the knowledge that young lady had acquired!  She led the service in both English and Hebrew, and won a free trip to Israel!  Then we had a getaway to Maine, and I had to move furniture!

$     Gary Meislin:  I’m still looking for a FEMALE cat!

$     Jean Hamlin:  Quite a few years ago on Feb 3rd I came home from work to find roses on the table with a note from my husband:  “Don’t cook—I’m bringing home McDonald’s!”  This time I forgot our anniversary!

$     Pat Lane:  I spent the past week in Somerville taking care of an old friend who’d had cataracts removed.  For the first time in years he could walk around his house without touching the walls, and when his daughter put the drops in his eyes, he marveled how much she looked like her mother!  He hadn’t really been able to see her in years!  It was a miraculous restoration of his vision!

DOOR PRIZE—no program, no door prize!

50/50 for $21.50 was won by our Treasurer, Bob Pasquarelli!

(Help pay for that dinner out?)

MEGA 50/50 now worth $357 continued to stymie us—Lyndon
      Ellis
this time.  He picked a King, but the wrong one—
the King of Hearts from the 32 remaining cards!
