PROGRAM

Joe Behson, Dave Booker, and Bob Loveridge jointly presented an
illustrated report of the International Kiwanis Convention they attended in
New Orleans. The emphasis was on the aspect of Kiwanis FAMILY, including all
the members such as Circle K, Aktion, Key Club, etc. We need to publicize our
activities more. “Once people see what we do, Kiwanis sells itself!”
Like no other gathering of our organization, the International Convention
shows the huge scope of service offered to those in need from all over the
world. Over 4000 Kiwanians, along with thousands of Circle K and Aktion
Clubs, speaking many different languages, but bonded together in service, came
together in friendship. 3200 delegates passed all 14 proposed amendments to
the By-Laws, so there will be much re-working ahead. The dues increase
proposal was referred back to committee with a recommendation to look for
other ways
of saving money, such as the “freebies” received by all past officers. The
proposed addition to the original 1923 “6 Objects of Kiwanis” were defeated
(92% against) as being redundant. 4 International Trustees were elected, as
was the Vice
President from Canada. NY’s own Tom DeJulio was nominated by a number of
Kiwanians who are Circle K alumni that Tom had worked with while the NY
District Circle K Administrator; his theme song for the year: “Make Someone
Happy”!
Lots of fun…all kinds of music everywhere! Met the real family from the movie “Blindside” who took in a homeless kid, loved and educated him, and he went on to become an NFL player. Their motto is “Turn Around”. Joe, Dave, and Bob all displayed many strings of beads, claiming they earned (?) them on Bourbon Street! They took many side trips and tours; New Orleans is rebuilding well after Hurricane Katrina, and is the fastest growing city in the US….but HOT! 100+ most days!
HAPPY DOLLARS
$ Dave Booker: I’d give a Happy Dollar, but I lost them all to a pickpocket in NOLA!
$ Barb Fioravanti: I flew to North Adams, and saw a flying movie “Red Tails”. We camped under the plane’s wing: ever know how loud rain is on hollow aluminum?!!
$ Randy Wheeler: Helped out with AP Road Runners track team, and took 20 kids to Camp Rotary – my vacation? I’m enjoying my new job in the Attorney General’s office—a much better commute than to Hudson!
$ Joe Behson: Thanks to the Club for electing me a delegate to New Orleans. Glad to see the Yankees doing better and better! And for Shawn Chamberlain—success in your new venture!
$ Bob Loveridge: The International Convention is an eye-opener. Instead of fighting, here were all these different countrymen being friends! Having the same focus, service! Also, I didn’t make my commitment to unloading the truck at Doors of Hope on Friday, because on my way there, a dump truck in front of me scattered rocks and smashed my windshield!
$ Eve Ward: On Wednesday, I will be judging a baking contest at the Brunswick Grange!
$ John Brownrigg: Blondie and I visited a castle in Canandaigua and had a wonderful dinner. There’s nothing like touring wineries with an insider! Lots of perks!
$ Jim Rogers: For the election of Tom DeJulio as International President, and for Dave Booker as the NY District Secretary!
$ Peg Weiss: Went for the tour on the Albany Aqua Ducks last Friday with Joan Pasquarelli; they close up this Wednesday! Best part was driving down the boat ramp into the Hudson!
$ Pat Lane: Had over 100 at our family reunion this past weekend. My niece cycled to my house from MA to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. My grandchildren surprised me with a framed picture of all of them! I was happy but exhausted, so today this old goat took a nap on my new pillowcase of goats made by Peg! (I collect goats)!
$ Gary Meislin: Pat got me a cat, but it hid in the bathroom, then got out and it’s gone!

DOOR PRIZE, a
beautiful NOLA tote bag full of beads, the convention program, and a CD of
NOLA music, provided by Joe Behson, was won
by
Peg Weiss!
50/50 for $19 was won by Barb Fioravanti!
MEGA 50/50, up to $388 this week, defeated John Mulligan, who picked the 7 of Spades from the 31 cards left. Keep growing, keep growing!
