GREETINGS & INVOCATION by Gov. Dave Booker

Before the invocation the club observed a moment of silence in honor of Immediate Past Governor Don Herring who had passed away Sunday morning (on left in photo to the right with Immediate Past International President Dave Curry at the Nashville International Convention.)

We also sang HappyAnniversary to Barb as she and Gene have a September anniversary and also with September anniversaries but absent from the meeting are Dick & Carol Johnsen as well as Clayton & Louise Besch. We also enjoyed Eve's cake.

Pres. Jerry for Ray Turner; Interclub to the lastVRD Council Meeting hosted by the No. Greenbush Club at Paolo Lombardi’s Restaurant at 6:00 p.m. on Wed. , Sept. 16th. The cost is $28 per person. This includes Tax and Gratuity. Let’s support Lt. Gov. Jim at his last formal event. The following will be attending; Gov. Dave Booker, Bob Pasquarelli, Joe Behson Fred Wurtemberger, Eve Ward, Peg Weiss, Pres. Jerry, John Mulligan and Lt Gov. Jim and JoAnn Rogers.

Gov. Dave has made up a listing of all various Kiwanis visits he has lined up in the New York District during the coming months. Members of the Sand Lake club who might be interested in making an interclub to one or more of these club visits, see Gov. Dave for the place and time.

Fred Wurtemberger: By a showing of raised hands by SLK members, Soup-Advisor Fred attempted to choose a recipient for this year’s coveted Soup-Advisor’s Award. But alas he was not able to find a winner because of either outright lying, lack of interest or a combination of both, among possible SLK recipients. After a great deal of discussion it finally decided that Dudley was the most worthy to receive this important award. Dudley eventually confessed that he only had one soup throughout the soup season, but still humbly accepted the award of a can of Campbell’s Chunky Clam Chowder Soup. Dudley found himself overjoyed with the receiving of this award.

Pres. Jerry: Joe Cybulski, Publicity Chair, was called front and center by our Pres. to receive tokens of appreciation for all of the hard work he has done for SLK for the past year. Thank you Joe!

SLK has received a thank you note from the Sand Lake Ecumenical Vacation Bible School for use of our tent free of charge.

Ron Wagner has been nominated by the Board designate to fill the unexpired portion of  Pat Lane’s term as Board member.  The election will take place at next week’s meeting on September 21st.  The Board designate will meet to approve Pat Lane as our new secretary.

Bob Pasquarelli; The food trailer had a bang-up week. (no not the accident type) We did double the amount of business we normally do this time of the year with $600.00 in sales. He thanked the crew that cleaned up. They did a good job, but not a great job. Someone forgot to put the waste water tube into the tank under the sink and consequently water leaked all over the floor. This is something that has to be  checked first thing when opening for business.

Joe Behson; Thank you to the 1st and 2nd shift people who worked the food trailer this past Sunday. Bill Whipple for delivering the trailer. John Brownrigg, Skip Patton Joe Behson 1st shift and Ron Wagner & Betty, Peg Weiss, Bob Loveridge 2nd shift. Thank you to Jim Colabelli for returning the trailer to Bob P. The slots are all filled for next weeks food trailer schedule.

Nancy Davis; The Doors of Hope will be expecting a food delivery on Tues Sept. 15th a.m. Joe Behson volunteered his services. To support the local Town Bi- Centennial there will be a covered dish dinner this Saturday with raffle tickets for sale and some great prizes to be awarded. See Nancy for details.

Eve Ward; All of the programming is complete for next year up to Memorial Day. Eve passed out copies to club members.

PROGRAM:  Joe Behson, program chair presented a very interesting report on the Kiwanis Club of Sand Lake Futures Committee.  Pres Jerry charged the committee to explore ways to reenergize membership, promote growth and rethink the club’s operations and structures.  The process:  1) Build upon consultant Lisa Giruzzi’s recommendation to identify what our club has done well and to build upon those strengths.  2) Take the pulse of the membership by listening carefully.  3) Acknowledge the contributions and strengths of both long time and newer club members.  4) Appreciate the limitations placed on members of volunteer organizations in today’s society and research, what works and what doesn’t.  A membership interview questionnaire was handed out to all SLK’s.  The following information was gathered by this questionnaire; members wanted meetings that were lively, all Kiwanians shared the great feeling that was experienced by helping others, camaraderie, social events, and community service projects.  Kiwanians were asked what changes would allow them to enjoy Kiwanis more &/ or be more involved.  The following answers were received; more hands on projects, less reliance on giving funds to groups and individuals, on-going education and orientation for new members, recapture clubs history and fun traditions, recognize and honor contributions of long time members, do club business one a month, not each week, be sure regular meetings and programs are short and to the point.  Here are some of the Future’s Committee recommendations; 1) List upcoming projects and events with e-mail of the Sandpiper, 2) Streamline Board Meetings.  Conduct Board meetings during dinner and entertain no other business other than what is on published and Board agenda. 3)  Rename and/or restructure club committee’s.  4) Establish a new Legacy Committee, open only to club members of 30 years or more.  Our program chair Joe Behson thanked members of the club for their many thoughtful and constructive responses to the interviews.  Members provided the Futures Committee with valuable guidance and direction that will contribute to the future vitality of the club.  Printed copies are available for a more detailed report on this program.  See either Jim Colabelli or Joe Behson for this information.
