ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ø  Jerry Tysiak stressed the need for help with the Thanksgiving food distribution.  We need more food, more help, more money!  Last year we served 40 families.  This year we’ve had requests from 50!  Jerry asked that we personally buy one or more of Hannaford’s boxes of food.  Several members volunteered to help make phone calls.

Ø  Bob Loveridge announced a special meeting for next week.  Our regular meeting will take place at the Rensselaer County Corrections Facility in south Troy, and the evening’s program will be a tour of the jail.  The Colonel will be retiring from his Superintendent’s position that same week!  Car pools will form at Milleford’s parking lot between 5:45-6 PM.

Ø  There will be a meeting of those involved with Christmas tree sales following this meeting.

PROGRAM

Randy Wheeler introduced Dr Greg Panzanero who teaches Forensic Science at Averill Park

High School.  Dr Panzanero thanked the Club for providing the funds to purchase two stadiometers for his classes, and said he was happy to be asked back for the third time!  He gave a slide show on the Biotechnology program that APHS was in partnership with HVCC.  Some of the pictures showed AP teachers working and learning in the HVCC labs with green fluorescent protein from jelly fish.  Greg was chosen as the Capital District representative to go to Bloomington, Indiana for a seminar on career options and salaries available to students who complete certain courses.  They learned how to do a pregnancy test, and happily reported all were negative!  There is a bioreactor coming to APHS, and soon they will be able to do centrifuge test for E Coli.  Several returning AP alumni spoke to the students, showing their work in forensics.  Typical of Greg’s presentations, we then had “hands on” experience with blood typing and RH factors.  Type O is the universal donor, and AB is the universal recipient.  Joe Behson thanked Greg for another fascinating program, and presented him with our Certificate of Appreciation.

HAPPY DOLLARS

$     Nancy, for a full roster of helpers at Doors of Hope tomorrow, and for no dental problems today, (unlike last week).  She was disappointed in not having pictures of the Trashbusters!

$     Kevin, for the SLK who helped to explain the new method of voting last week!

$     Woodie, for the very nice card SLKs sent to Marian.  She gets her new wig tomorrow!

$     Bob P, for the great weather at the Diaconate Conference in Hyannis this past weekend!

$     Gary, for my cat who is happy she can go out, and I gave her an advance of $1 for treats!

$     Dick J:  announcing the Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service at the WSL Lutheran Church this coming Sunday at 7 PM—please come—the offering goes to benefit the REACH program.

Also, the “soul” members of the Spiritual Aims Committee (Johnsen & Pasquarelli) are inviting area clergy and spouses to a recognition dinner here Dec 13th.

$     Ken James, for the wonderful apple pie I received as a door prize a couple of weeks ago!

$     Nancy, again, for tonight’s program which reminded her of long time AP science teacher, Eleanor Reid!

$     Botsy, for Booker’s help in helping me choose and buy a generator—thanks!

$     Pat:  It’s so great to see the room so full of SLKs!

$     Angelo:  Rensselaer County Veterans’ organization is having a fund raiser in Lansingburgh Dec 11th to establish a scholarship fund at HVCC in memory of Nassau’s own Sgt Farley, who was killed in the Middle East recently.  250 tickets @ $100 each—big prizes!

$     Behson:  I’ll pay for the Jets’ win, if Dave will match it for the Pats!  (He did)!

$     Greg:  Congratulations to Woodie for being in Kiwanis for 50 years!  I’m only 50 years old!

$     Skip, for a great trip to Oneonta, where we had a great Brooks BBQ!

DOOR PRIZE, provided by Randy Wheeler, was won by Botsy!

50/50 for $27.50 was won by Dudley!

MEGA 50/50 foiled the best efforts of Sec Dave, who picked the Ace of Hearts from the remaining 25 cards!  So, the $455.50 pot will grow, and grow…….maybe next week?
