ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ø  Mike Gates:  Tonight is the FINAL deadline for citrus.  Orders go in tomorrow!

Ø  Pres Pat:  To help get the Builders Club started at Algonquin Middle School, I would like to start with a project just as the K-Kids did at West Sand Lake.  We will help them make dog chew toys.  Bring in clean tee shirts (or similar soft cotton knit fabric).  The “cut-ups” will be at Pat’s house between Christmas and New Year’s!

Ø  John Brownrigg:  There will be a BRIEF Summerfest meeting following this meeting.

Ø  Pres Pat read a thank you letter from Debra Roy at SLCA for our donation to their Annual Fund and Capital Campaign.  4 complimentary vouchers were included, and Pres Pat announced that a raffle will be held for them, with proceeds to the EliMiNate Project.

Ø  Mike Gates:  18 trees have been sold so far, 100 were delivered, 75 more coming later.

Ø  Please note our new location, compliments of Botsy!

Ø  Eve Ward:  Please don’t forget gifts for teens.  We have 35 young people to provide for.

PROGRAM

Bob Pasquarelli introduced the director of the Sand Lake Center for the Arts, Debra Roy who thanked the Club once more for our donation, and also noted that many individual Kiwanians have contributed.  She paid tribute to all the volunteers who make the Center operate smoothly including present Board members Bob Pasquarelli and Dudley Dorr.  The Capital Campaign will hopefully provide the funds with which the Center will be renovated and improved.  They hope to raise $90,000 in 3 years to build a permanent, structurally sound stage, improve the overall lighting, and install a sturdy new floor.  Many groups use the Center for various purposes:  dancing, art work display, theater productions, workshops, and classes.  They have $19,000 so far in the bank, with $10,000 pledged.  No work will be started until all the necessary funds have been raised.  2013 is the goal year, which is the Center’s 10th Anniversary.  First draft plans are available to peruse, and advice is sought as to the type of lighting to be installed.  Barbara Fioravanti thanked Debra for coming to update us on their plans, and presented her with our Certificate of Appreciation.
