Meeting Protocol
Each
meeting begins with the president calling the meeting to order with the ringing
of the Kiwanis Bell, the singing of a patriotic song, the pledge to the flag and
an invocation.
A
highlight of each meeting is a brief program. The program is presented by a
guest speaker or club member and is meant to inform or educate the members. The
program for the 1st meeting of each month (the evening on which the
Board of Directors meets) is presented by one of the standing committees and
explains the roll of that committee in the club.
Early
in the administrative year the vice president creates an assignment list
assigning a program chair, an invocator & an official greeter for each
regular meeting. It is the
responsibility of each assigned members to arrange for a substitute should
he/she be unable to meet the obligation.
Program
Chair – it is the
responsibility of the weekly program chair to arrange a speaker for a brief (20
minute) program and provide a door prize ($5 or $10 value).
The exact natures of the program and the door prize are left up to the
program chair, but neither should be blatantly commercial and because the Sand
Lake Kiwanis Club is not meant to be a partisan political forum all programs
concerning a controversial nature should reflect all sides of that issue.
Invocation
– the person assigned delivers a brief invocation prior to the meal.
Greeter
– this individual greets the members and guests as they enter the dining room
and at the conclusion of the program thanks the speaker and presents to them a
token of thanks from the club.
Bell and Gavel – the president will use the Kiwanis Bell and Gavel to get the attention of the membership. When the Kiwanis Bell is rung the membership should cease their conversations and turn their undivided attention to the speaker at the head table.
